Rendering is a method of recycling agri-food by-products into protein meals and oils that are then used as inputs in animal feed.

These by-products are laden with microorganisms, many of which are pathogenic to both humans and animals. Rendering is the safest method to inactivate disease-causing microbes found in these materials. In addition, if not recycled, they would release large amounts of carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus into the environment contributing to global warming, soil loading and water contamination.

API produces protein meals and oils, which are key nutritional ingredients in animal feed and pet food. By producing these ingredients locally, API helps displace more expensive imported proteins and oils, which would otherwise increase the cost of food locally.
